Not just any olive oil

It’s hard to think of olives and olive oil without thinking about the deep blue Mediterranean Sea, the calming waters of the the Greek islands…and we can hardly forget the delectable Mediterranean cuisine! But olive oil has been a not-so-best-kept secret of the Greeks since ancient times. Whilst Spartans and Greeks would rub this fabulous oil to help them exercise, the exotic women of the time were the first to use it as a moisturiser. Cleopatra herself was said to use it on her skin due to its excellent moisturising properties. The main components that make olive oil remarkable are phenols. These have been found to serve as strong antioxidants and radical scavengers. We are proud to source our organic, extra virgin olive oil from our very own Mediterranean country. Made in Cyprus, we are very proud of the extraordinary quality of our olive oil, a quality quite like no other. Our olive oil has been found to contain one of the highest phenol levels found in any olive oil produced.

Activated Bamboo Charcoal

When it comes to detoxifying the skin, nothing does it quite like activated bamboo charcoal. Egyptians used charcoal for medicinal purposes back in 1,500 to absorb unpleasant odours. Often referred to as “Black Diamond” in Asia, this extraordinary ingredient is prized for its ability to draw out impurities, improve the skin’s complexion and prevent acne.

Ritual

Begin by shaking the bottle well to disperse the activated bamboo charcoal. Then, dispense 3 (or more, depending on your needs) pumps of our cleansing oil onto the palm of your hand. Gently rub your palms together to warm the oil slightly and apply to your face and neck in circular motions. We recommend doing so for around 30 seconds (and if you have the time, even up to a minute, it can be wonderfully relaxing!). If you are using it to remove makeup, continue to glide the oil over your face and neck until your makeup fully melts. Add a bit of water to your face and start rubbing it in with the oil to form a milky cleanse. Rinse thoroughly with more water, preferably warm.

Tip: Before rubbing the oil in, your senses can bask in the sweet smells this wonder oil imparts. Hold your hands up to your face, slowly close your eyes and inhale. You will detect our sweet orange, lavender and geranium oils, all of which are renowned for their calming properties. After a hectic day, these little treats are always welcome!

FAQs

There are a lot of misconceptions about using oils on oil/acne-prone skin. The short answer is YES. For those with oily skin, perhaps not all cleansing oils are suitable, it’s important to look at the ingredients and type of oils used in a cleansing oil. Our cleansing oil is formulated so that we achieve a balance between the oils sitting long enough on your skin to be able to melt away makeup and dirt, and yet being easy to wash off so that no residue is left behind. Furthermore, if you have oily skin, then it is also best to do a double cleanse. Use our Coming Clean cleansing oil as a first step in your cleansing routine to rid your skin of makeup, sunscreen and nasties, and then another gentle cleanser in your next step. You should always double cleanse even if you don’t have oily skin but have been out of a day with makeup, particularly in a polluted environment. At the end of the day, it can be a trial and error situation, as each of us has a different skin type 🙂

Our cleansing oil has been formulated so that you should be able to rinse it off thoroughly. Upon contact with water, a milky cleanse forms thanks to a small percentage of gentle emulsifier we have added. This is to assist you in removing the oil from your skin. If you feel that simply rinsing the cleansing oil off thoroughly with water may not be enough, we also recommend using a konjac sponge, a muslin cloth, a flannel or organic cotton pads to ensure the cleansing oil has been removed thoroughly.

As you dispense the oil, you will notice black deposits in it. This is our wonderful activated bamboo charcoal, that helps give that extra thorough cleanse we all need after a long day. Bamboo charcoal offers a plethora of benefits to the skin and is renowned its detoxing abilities. You will also find it as one of our star ingredients in the Dirty Spice Clay Mask

If you have not been out much of a day, then you can certainly use this cleanser on its own, as it acts like any other cleanser. Make sure to wash the cleansing oil off well. Double cleansing is highly recommended if you have oily/acne-prone skin, have been wearing makeup, sunscreen or have been exposed to environmental pollutants for a long period of time. In this case, we recommend using the cleansing oil as your very first step in your double cleansing routine. These wonderful oils are fantastic for melting makeup and sunscreen which can then be easily removed with water or with the help of a konjac sponge or flannel.
